NEPC Exporter Registration, NXP, EEG and Non-Oil Export Compliance
Businesses exporting from Nigeria should register with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), prepare the correct export documentation and comply with sector-specific controls. Incentives such as the Export Expansion Grant are conditional and should not be treated as guaranteed cash support.
This article is general trade information, not legal, tax, banking or customs advice. Nigerian rules and portal workflows can change. The importer/exporter must verify the current requirements with the relevant authority, authorised dealer bank and licensed customs agent before committing or dispatching cargo.
Register with NEPC
NEPC states that businesses intending to export from Nigeria must register through its e-registration platform and obtain an exporter certificate. Company applicants should prepare CAC incorporation records, constitutional documents, director information and board resolution as required by the current checklist.
NXP and export documentation
NXP is processed through the exporterβs bank and records the export transaction. Other documents may include proforma and final commercial invoices, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, Single Goods Declaration, certificate of origin and inspection or quality documents where applicable.
Export Expansion Grant
NEPC describes EEG as a post-shipment incentive for qualifying active exporters. Published criteria include CAC and NEPC registration, formal exports, repatriation of proceeds, minimum annual export turnover and Nigerian-origin products. Rates and accreditation requirements depend on the current scheme rules and assessment.
Duty drawback and imported inputs
Do not assume that imported raw materials automatically qualify for duty drawback or refund. Confirm whether a current scheme is open, the legal basis, eligible inputs, evidence of duty paid, export linkage, time limits and application authority before building a financial model around a refund.
Agricultural and regulated exports
Agricultural products may require phytosanitary certification and inspection by the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), in addition to destination-country requirements. Confirm product-specific export restrictions, treatment, testing, packaging and destination permits before loading.
Practical checklist before shipment
- Confirm the correct HS code, product description, origin and applicable tariff.
- Check current permits, product registration and conformity certificates before loading.
- Match invoice, packing list, transport document, origin evidence and bank/portal records.
- Ask the Nigerian importer and licensed customs agent to confirm the live clearance workflow.
